An Ode to Roller Girls

In honor of I Love Roller Derby Day, a poem by our very own Liz Soranno!

An Ode to Roller Girls

Hardcore disco dolly
"nobody puts Baby in a corner"
punk rock athlete.

Life of the party
will take you out with the flick of her hip
warrior on wheels.

Wears her heart on her tattooed sleeve
Trash talkin', fishnet wearin'
single, girlfriend, (derby) wife.

Short-skirt, mega-flirt
red lipstick-stained
professional, manager, coordinator, director.

Glittered up, Derby Skinzed
Ready to do battle
sister, student, pinup.

Blink and you'll miss her
Crowd pleasin'
Bad ass daughter.

Ass-kickin', tells it like it is
Tough as they come
can't judge a book by its cover girl.

Alter-egoed, super hero
femme fatale
foul-mouthed (Earth) mother rebel.

To all the derby girls everywhere -- Happy I Love Roller Derby Day.
